We Left Farming and Hunting to Teach God's Word to Children...
Evangelist Moses Talang Okello- Principle of Awoda Hope Christian School

The story of Moses T. Okello

My name is Moses Talang Okello. I am joyfully married to one wife, and God has blessed us with three beautiful daughters—ages 5, 3, and 9 months.

I serve as the Principal of Awoda Hope Christian School and currently lead our newly planted church, Awoda Hope Bible Church.

I came to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior when a Brother named Nyangwa invited me to a Bible study under a tree in our village of Awoda in South Sudan.

Brother Nyangwa continued to disciple me and later invited me to attend the Hope Teacher Training at Wau Hope Christian School in the city of Wau, South Sudan.

It was there that I sensed God’s call on my life to serve Him through education.

God's Direction

When I returned to Awoda, Brother Nyangwa shared a vision with me—to launch Awoda Hope Christian School as a way to reach our community with the gospel by educating the next generation through Christ-centered learning.

After showing the love of Christ by educating people's children, we would then plant a Church.

I accepted the call and began serving as a volunteer teacher.

By God’s grace, in November of last year, we graduated our very first Kindergarten class!

From the Field to a Classroom

The journey has not been easy. Providing for our families is difficult without regular income.

Leaving behind our livelihoods of farming and hunting to fully commit to the work God has called us to has not been easy on our families. Our income is small, when it comes at all.

But this situation has allowed us to witness, again and again, the faithful God we serve!

At Awoda are not just teachers to our 200 students. We are also administrators, coaches, spiritual advisors and construction workers - yes, we teachers constructed the simple shelters we use for our school!

Although we still lack many basic necessities such as blackboards, desks, and chairs, God IS moving!

TRANSORMATION IS HAPPENING

With full confidence, I proclaim the words of Isaiah 9:2:

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; .."

Indeed, our village has seen the Light and the transformation He has brought to their children.

Parents tell us how they are witnessing real changes in their children: They sing praise and worship songs, speak better English, maintain good hygiene, and now pray before meals, at bedtime, and when they awake.

Jesus is the Lord of transformation and Awoda Hope Christian School is proof!

From School to Church

Less than two years ago in Awoda, we had no School and no Church - NOTHING!

Now, thanks to God, we have both!

Monday through Friday our building serves as "home" for over 200 students. On Sundays and week nights, our school transforms into a house of worship and discipleship were 50-70 people gather to study the Bible and praise God.

We are also now reaching out to nearby villages with the hope of the gospel.

Just like in the Bible, God is multiplying our efforts even though we only have a few loaves and fishes.

God IS good!
